Vadim,

a guy in the bug blog said that this bug cannot lead to a freeze and I must have sth else. Pls advise how to save the output from the apport command to a file on the windows partition, so I can email it to you. or if you can advise how to email directly from the shell ( after first checking whether I have network at all ).
I have not been able to use 11.10 for 2 weeks now. also advise what to do after the freeze. I would restart and go in recovery and then drop to a root shell, but maybe you want me to do sth else. please, be explicit, I am a good user but novice as administrator. none of the shortcuts that can take me to a shell work after a freeze (or at least the ones I know about).
thank you very much.
I appreciate your support.

Title:
  desktop freeze

Status in “rsyslog” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
system reaches the login prompt and freezes. nothing works at this time.
syslog shows 'unable to open pipe /dev/xconsole' coming from rsyslogd. it says to look at rsyslog.com/e/2039
  but there is nothing there.
it smells like a permissions issue where the daemon does not have write permission.
not sure why it happened. I can drop to root shell using the recovery mode.

  pls advise what to do.

  it is ubuntu 11.10
