before you go ahead and implement that solution. i've gone ahead and asked the rhythmbox dev's about the sideeffects of that fix...
it WILL break any plugins that attempt to add filters or additional sinks into the pipeline. luckily there are none of those already in rhythmbox itself yet tho.

so this will break rhythmbox in the future when such a plugin is released to the mainstream or break it for those playing with experimental plugins.
