I can tell you Mandriva and Fedora have pavucontrol installed and I get
my Audigy 2 ZS working that way. It is not installed in Ubuntu (by
default) and until I did, I could not get sound working.
Why would Mandriva and Fedora feel it necessary to include pavucontrol?
Regardless of my report, One loses major PulseAudio functionality
without it.
