I have had the same problem with the linuxant hsf modem. Also, it drops out after 4 or 5 minuets on line.
Tech support from Linuxant came down to offering several init strings that lowered the modem connect speed, and in the end the admission that there were modulation issues within their conexant code that had not been solved.
I solved the problem by using a USB to serial cable, and a Diamond SuperExpress 56 PRO hardware mopdem, and droping the Linuxant driver.
This has worked flawlessly, except for the fact that the modem diaols up as soon as the desktop is loaded.
