vijay, which version do you currently have installed? 2.4.3 or 2.4.1? please don't install packages outside the repositories, as this messes up the bug solving process here... if you look at the comments above, people have reported that is works (also with amd64, which seems to be your architecture)...
i would suggest you remove all pidgin versions installed, make sure you have hardy-backports enabled, and reinstall pidgin.
also, what is the number of the other bug report you filed? did you file it using another username?
