Could you provide some additional information on the bug? For instance, what version of Ubuntu are you using and what version of php-pear are you trying to install?

Could you provide steps to reproduce the issue?

Since your logs mention php 7.2, I assumed you are using bionic (18.04) and checked the dependencies for php-pear from the bionic packages in https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/php-pear. None of them list php-archive-tar as a dependency.

Therefore, I will mark this bug as incomplete until we can gather more information on the issue and the context where it is being observed. Once you provide such information or if you disagree with my assessment, feel free to change the status of this bug back to new.
