This is a very bad advice. You could just disable the loading of the gnome-settings-daemon plugin by setting /apps/gnome_settings_daemon/gtk-modules/pk-gtk-module to False in the gconf-editor.
The original message is only a warning message and not an error.
Furthermore the gtk-module only enables installing fonts on requests, but this is not supported by Debian/Ubuntu.
