I have Entered the commands as advised with the following results.
I am a complete novice when it comes to Linux, so I do not know if "my problem"
Still exists :-)

9.04 to 10.04 is not a normal upgrade path; you should normally step
through 9.10 (as described here:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UpgradeNotes).

Please could you try running the following commands in a terminal to see
if this resolves the issue:

  sudo dpkg-reconfigure openssh-client
  sudo apt-get -f install

Please update this bug report if this does resolve the problem.
