It has been reported to work by installing
openoffice.org-gtk-gnome
openoffice.org-kde
(depending on whether you have Ubuntu or Kubuntu).

Haven't tried it myself and I do not know the details how it is fixed.

I am closing the bug for now. If someone still has this problem, please open it
again.
