I don't know if it helps, but I noticed by watching my logs that :
When the display fail to start, this :

(**) Apr 30 09:25:58 NVIDIA(0): Enabling RENDER acceleration

in Xorg.*.log comes before this :

in /var/log/messages

When the display starts without any problem, the /var/log/messages one comes first (and of course, there isn't any errors)

We really need this problem to be solved because the free driver doesn't work at all with this graphic chip ( https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-nouveau/+bug/568798 )
