OpenOffice.org Writer GUI rendering problems

OpenOffice.org Writer has a lot of user interface rendering glitches, examples of which I have attached. The most common one I have encountered is that buttons on the tool bar randomly disappear. I have also seen dropdown buttons and buttons on dialog boxes rendered weird after mouse-over (see attached images). All this happens pretty frequently, though seemingly at random. Most happen on mouse-over, but the "Button Not Rendered.png" image shows a glitch that happens seemingly at random. These glitches come and go in a session, a lot of times mousing over the badly rendered item will re-render it properly.

This has been a problem for me for a while now, since at least the launch of Intrepid, but it has gotten a lot more frequent with the upgrade to Jaunty, which is why I'm reporting it now. I have also updated the nvidia non-free graphics driver a number of times and I still have this bug.

I only really use Writer, so I don't know yet if this bug also affects the other OpenOffice.org apps, but I will see if I can reproduce them in Impress, Calc, etc.

Just confirmed an instance of this bug in Calc.

Yes, this is a nvidia driver issue. Which version of the driver are you using so I can reassign this to the proper package.

Currently I'm running NVIDIA driver 180.44, though I have had the bug on older drivers as well. My graphics card, if that helps, is the nVidia GeForce 8600M GT (rev a1).

After doing a little more research on nvidia 180 driver bugs, it looks like this is definitely a dupe of https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/271103 which is an instance of the metabug https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/269904.
