I can't connect to Gaim at all when using a static IP address now. I have a wireless interface and a wired interface. The wireless is and should be managed by NetworkManager. The wired interface is managed by /etc/network/interfaces so that I can use a static IP address at work. While at work, I cannot connect to Gaim, even by selecting 'Available'. Evolution has intermittent problems, yet Liferea works fine. Killing NetworkManager and restarting /etc/init.d/networking does not solve the problem.
