ubuntu intrepid doesn't save network configs

Bug Description
I've installed Ubuntu 8.10 on my computer. I use Static IP (routed modem).
System-
"connect automatically" checked.
"system settings" checked.
Next step: ipv4 Settings tab-->added IP: 10.1.1.4, mask: 255.0.0.0, gateway: 10.1.1.1 and DNS: 10.1.1.1 and click OK.
Connection established.
Problem: When I restart my computer, these configurations aren't remembered. I have to configure again.
Solution I had (not the best): change data in /etc/network/
