Thanks you so much for your report and the nice pre-analysis.

I think it makes sens to harden the maintainer scripts against that case, yet I think it is a low (maybe medium?) prio issue.

If anyone is willing to provide a patch for it we are surely supportive to help reviewing and integrating it.
