This bug did affect me. Solution for me after some googling with no hints at all I found this while debugging.
Totem player refused to connect to stream from any silverlight sites. After purging totem with apt I installed mplayer, and gecko-mediaplayer, downloaded silverlight-media-pack-linux-x86-5-1.so codec from Microsoft and windows-essential-20071007 from MplayerHQ website.
Copied silverlight-media-pack-linux-x86-5-1.so (I have uploaded a copy to my server http://www.nixn.org/essentials/silverlight-media-pack-linux-x86-5-1.so in case it's hard to find). Symlinked it into /usr/lib/codecs followed by ldconfig. After this I have no problem with silverlight sites using the moonlight plugin.
