loop-aes-utils in Lucid replaces /bin/mount with a version that doesn't recognize the --no-canonicalize option. As a consequence, mount commands including that option fail. This happens at least with external drives formatted with vfat or ntfs-formatted, e.g. usb keys.
In this case, mounting fails silently with no error, and no hint unless using a strace on the mount command.
