More information about the upstream kernel:
I've downloaded the v3.3-rc6 kernels as instructions, dpkg -i it and reboot.
I noticed that there are a few things there weren't working (X, and normal text display were coming up). I ssh-ed into the box and did the hciconfig commands. I noticed the same symptoms as I've reported on existing kernel (timeout error.)
