I would like to bring to your kind notice the following that may be of use:

I experienced the problem with USB Hard Drives (NTFS Formatted)

I formatted a USB Pen Drive using NTFS file system and tried safely removing it. the problem did not occur with the Pen Drive. However with the Hard disk the problem was still there.

After installing the Patched kernels from Herton link, the problem did not occur with Hard Drives as well.
