Anyway, it would be a good time to test your issues with a current daily compat-wireless driver as there are some new patches in it and still time to get stuff into oneiric. So, if you have time, could you try compiling the latest daily compat-wireless tarball from: http://wireless.kernel.org/download/compat-wireless-2.6/
e.g. today this is:
compat-wireless-2011-08-05.tar.bz2

but basically it is as simple as (in a terminal in the directory of the upacked driver):
./scripts/driver-select rt2x00
make
sudo make install
sudo make unload
sudo modprobe -v rt2800pci
