Installing http://dahetral.com/public-download/psmouse-alps-dst-1.2.tbz/view worked for me.

Download into /usr/src, run
./alps.sh dkms_install_symlink
and then
 ./alps.sh dkms_build_alps

Dell latitude e5430, cat /proc/bus/input/devices says I: Bus=0011 Vendor=0002 Product=0008 Version=0000

This is 12.10
