The OR has verified with hda-verb that the internal microphone needs
VREF50 set for audible capture.

I've requested that it be merged into the next round of stable updates for 2.6.32, so it probably will be in 2.6.32.12. Alternately, you can simply use linux-alsa-driver-modules-$(uname -r) from ppa:ubuntu-audio-dev.
I was assuming that you were using 2.6.33 or linux-alsa-driver-modules or testing Lucid already. Sorry.
