Shang,

The latest kernel did not work. The boot stalled again, so I moved on to
part two of your e-mail.

The first link would not load in the package manager so I went to synaptic
and marked the header and it pulled the proper dependencies. Then I d-loaded
the second link and then restarted the computer.

And it boots fine now without having to load an older kernel from the grub
loader.

Thanks for all of your help. I learned a great deal.
