Re this problem, for a thinkpad X31 running Ubuntu 7.10:
- stock kernel 2.6.22-15-generic is buggy.
- home-compiled kernel 2.6.23.9 is not buggy.

Ubuntu is a great OS, but it is weird that a kernel.org kernel works better than what they cook up.
What gives?
