I could kick myself, I was convinced I had the WLAN switched on as the Wireless Indicator light was showing dark blue...
However, RTFM - there are four states for the WLAN:
Lights green - The wireless LAN function is activated
Lights blue - The Bluetooth function is activated.
Lights light blue - Wireless LAN and Bluetooth functions are both activated.
Lights off - Wireless and Bluetooth both disabled
So basically I'd just enable bluetooth, not the WLAN - on setting it to light blue and using the Win2k driver, the card's working really well.
I hope this post will help all of the other people who have been struggling with it the same as I have.
