I executed the command you gave me but I also need to let you know that I attempted upgrading to 9.04 to help the situation. It didn't. However when I use alsamixer and I unmuite the "Spread Front to Surround and Center/LFE" listing I get high volume out of one speaker and distorted low sound out of the other. Using the sound test in sound pref. also works only when that channel is unmuted. Also there is no volume control like this either. Please help!! │

> I'm using Ubuntu 8.1 Studio. I don't know much about Pulse or Jack so I was messing around with them one day and the applications froze. I opened SysMonitor and attempted to kill some of the sleeping apps. I killed qjacktl (there was over 5 of them), one qjacktl was listed uninteruptible. I also killed all the Pulse audio stuff then restarted X. From then on I've had no sound even after rebooting and getting every single update I could get. Please help me!!! Also I can use the Pulse audio manager and when I play a song the inputs are active and show signals.
