I am now using Karmic. Hibernate works, but is slow to go to sleep (>30 sec)
and slow to wake up (>30 sec). This is with the programs Matlab, LyX and
Firefox open.
Suspend shuts down fast when there are programs open, but takes forever to
wake up (more than a couple of minutes, but possibly much longer). When
programs are open, suspend takes longer to shut down, and seems to shut down
twice in a row, that is first all indicator lamps dim out and the computer
seems to be asleep, but then the indicator lamps gets turned on again for a
few seconds and then everything finally shuts down again. Also here does it
take forever to wake up.
Note that that I have an Intel SSD 80GB disc, and that I have disabled the
Bios option: 'Fan always on when on AC power', which was well known to be
crucial in Intrepid for booting the system.
I also note that with the Intel SSD boot times are very fast, so shutting
down totally and then re-booting is manageable. But a function Suspend would
of course be helpful.
Please let me know if I should send you some logs of my system.
Thanks for a great Ubuntu experience!
