Shutdown/reboot start the process then it just goes to a flashing cursor but does not turn the machine off or reboot it. Have tried removing splash from menu.lst and it make no difference except when I attempt shutdown/reboot the last text I see is:
mount: / is busy
* Will now halt
Then the cursor just hangs there until I press the off button. Kernel log, syslog and Dmesg show nothing unusual (as far as I can tell). The problem only occurs when using Gnome.
If I boot to the recovery kernel (no GUI) then issue the shutdown command it exits and powers off as it is supposed to.
I am experiencing a similar problem.
