chris, just to clarify, you downloaded and compiled the printer driver source from:
http://support-th.canon-asia.com/P/search?model=PIXMA+MX328&menu=download&filter=0&tagname=g_os&g_os=Linux

As well, does the upstream driver work in your Precise install?
