Lately, I have been having trouble booting at all. I found out that if I unplug the laptop and then boot, usually (ha, not always) it will boot. Then I have to promptly run a ripper to keep the machine going (and now this doesn't always work).

I noticed that when it does not boot, the hard drive LED goes off and stays off at and at that point, boot fails.

Just to see, while booting and not plugged in, I suddenly plugged it in , hard drive LED goes off.
