jevgtv, thank you for taking the time to report this bug and trying to help make Ubuntu better. However, DistroRelease: LinuxMint 13 is not a software package provided by the official Ubuntu repositories. Because of this the Ubuntu project can not support or fix your particular bug. Please report this bug to the provider of the software package. Thanks!

If you are interested in learning more about software repositories and Ubuntu the following pages should be informative:

Dear Christopher,

Thank you for your help so far. I will follow the instructions kindly
given by you.

As you can read from my bug report, the problem is connected with Ubuntu
also. I just reported it from LinuxMint 13, because I it was the system
I used in this particular moment.

If you want me to report the bug again, this time from Ubuntu, I can do
it. Howere the information collected was related to my machine, not to
distribution.

In addition, Mint is based on ubuntu, and all the bug-fixes affect
LinuxMint also.

So could you kindly re-open the bag?

Regards,

jevgtv

jevgtv, thank you for attempting to test the newest mainline. The issue you are reporting is an upstream one. Could you please report this problem through the appropriate channel by following the instructions _verbatim_ at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/kernel#KernelTeam.2BAC8-KernelTeamBugPolicies.Overview_on_Reporting_Bugs_Upstream ?

Marking Triaged as mainline tested, and regression test of Lucid kernel.

If installing a Hardy kernel does not work with Precise, you are welcome to try a Hardy live environment via http://releases.ubuntu.com/hardy/ .

Thank you Christopher for the fast responce!
Unfortunatelly, my smart card software (see installer.id.ee) does not
work with hardy, so I can try a kernels only.

jevgtv, thank you for your comments. If you are unable to test the Hardy live environment or a Hardy kernel, it would be best to follow the directions noted in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1066375/comments/65 , so upstream kernel.org developers can review your problem.

Thank you for your understanding.

jevgtv, due to how the driver in use for your card reader is sdhci-pci, as per http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux-2.6.git;a=blob;f=MAINTAINERS#l2867 you would want to E-Mail the mailing list for that driver <email address hidden> :

Hello Christopher,

Thank you for your help so far.

The kernel you suggested does not help with old BIOS.
uname -a
3.8.0-030800rc1-generic #201212212135 SMP Sat Dec 22 02:45:41 UTC 2012
i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux

The process of BIOS updating will take a while. It is little bit
complicated. I do not have windows, so have to learn how to create
BIOS-replacing-usb from *.exe provided by HP.

Well partly ... ;) I had success with the following description:
http://feeding.cloud.geek.nz/2012/03/creating-freedos-bootable-usb-stick-to.html

The crucial part was to get a working phlash16.exe ... I tried three of them and finally success .. no brick, latest BIOS and drumroll ... the SD card reader is WORKING! Tada

So at last for me it was a BIOS related bug.

Dear Christopher,

I am sorry, I did not manage with updating BIOS.

It is unable to boot from trivial DOS or Win98 prompt USB.

HP 6910p needs some drivers for booting DOS or Windows, and I am not so
familiar with that.

Dear Jhoechtl, what are you mean under SD-reader? If SanDisc reader, if
works for me without updating of BIOS.

My problem is connected with SC-reader, see
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smart_card

jevgtv, thank you for posting a direct URL to the report. A number of issues exist in your post http://permalink.gmane.org/gmane.linux.kernel.mmc/17486 that may have contributed to the report not being responded to. These are documented in https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeam/KernelTeamBugPolicies :
+ You omitted the wording for each section. For example:
[1.] 1180:0822 smart card reader Ricoh Co Ltd RL5c476 II not working

should be:
[1.] One line summary of the problem: 1180:0476 SmartCard Reader Ricoh Co Ltd RL5c476 not working

+ You posted a link for the Bug Description instead of typing it directly into the report for [2.].

+ You posted Ubuntu tags into an upstream bug report in section [3.]. Upstream does not use the Ubuntu tag system.

+ You were not booted into the newest mainline kernel when providing the upstream information (ex. sections [4.] and [7.1.]), while the newest kernel version available as of the date of your post was v3.6.5.

+ Putting extraneous information into [5.] when you don't have an oops, and [6.] when you are not providing a shell script.

Despite all this, could you please test for this problem in the newest mainline kernel available http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.8-rc4-raring/ ? If reproducible, and since your initial upstream post was not responded to, you would be justified in creating a bug report on bugzilla.kernel.org following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeam/KernelTeamBugPolicies .
