Bug Description

Using an Acer Aspire One 722-0473, when on running on battery power, the wireless connection slows down to a crawling pace, or stops entirely.

When running Lucid, the wifi worked perfectly on battery power.

WORKAROUND: After unplugging the computer from the AC, execute the following at a terminal, and the wireless begins to behave normally:
/sbin/iwconfig eth1 power off

WORKAROUND: In 12.04 and 12.10, uninstall network-manager and use wicd instead.

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v3.6 kernel[0] (Not a kernel in the daily directory) and install both the linux-image and linux-image-extra .deb packages.

Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. Please only remove that one tag and leave the other tags. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text.

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately I was unable to test the upstream kernel (3.6 rc6), as the wl module would not load and I was left with no wireless connection whatsoever.

I opened jockey and attempted to activate the broadcom driver through it, but an error arose. I will attach the jockey.log file that was generated.

André d., thank you for testing the mainline kernel. Could you please confirm this issue exists with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ . If the issue remains, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p linux <replace-with-bug-number>

Thank you for your understanding.

What is your laptop model line found on the laptop sticker? For example, Acer Aspire 5750-9668?

Sorry for the delay in responding...

I have just flashed the newest bios (1.8), but saw absolutely no change in the wireless behavior. It misbehaves exactly as it did before, and the same workaround still works.

At the risk of further complicating, rather than clarifying the issue, I think it should be noted that the wifi problems seem to go away if I uninstall network-manager and use wicd instead. This is true both of 12.04 and 12.10.

Ok. To further test if network-manager is a factor, could you please boot into an installed version of either 12.04 or 12.10, install the Lucid kernel found at https://launchpad.net/~canonical-kernel-team/+archive/ppa/+build/3851599 , and comment on the issue is reproducible?
