ealthuis, as per http://www.broadcom.com/products/Wireless-LAN/802.11-Wireless-LAN-Solutions/BCM4313 it would appear your hardware is single-band (2.4 GHz) only.
What one would need is a dual-band (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz) product, for example http://www.broadcom.com/products/Wireless-LAN/802.11-Wireless-LAN-Solutions/BCM43224 .
Hence, this wouldn't be a limitation in Ubuntu (ex. linux kernel, Broadcom driver, etc.), but that of the hardware capabilities.
Thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. Please feel free to report any future bugs you may find.
