re-installing the "linux-restricted-modules-2.6.24-16-generic" did re-enable the NVIDIA driver, but configuring the NVIDIA X Server Settings from the Desktop menu System
setting gives the following error message : select --> X Server Display Configuration ( tried to changed the resolution back to my original 1440x900 ) while selecting "Save to X Configuration File" got error message : Unable to remove old X config backup file '/etc/X11/xorg.conf.backup'
To solve, open a terminal window and type "sudo nvidia-settings" and repeat same steps as above, saving to X Configuration file will work now.
Does anyone know if there is already a Bug report open for this? Couldn't find any.
