Comment 73 for bug 212271

Doing some bug cleanup. The cx88 null pointer exceptions and hal failing to load bugs are clearly duplicates of this one. Stefan committed a couple of changes to l-u-m that fixes this for me. The choir seems to agree. Thanks!
