To add to this, my v3000 is dual booted with Win, and mount several NTFS partitions in Feisty. If I let Win hibernate, then boot into Feisty, sound in Feisty is broken. Even if I go back to Win and let is shutdown cleanly, sound does not come on.

The trick of booting with the power plug pulled out does seem to bring sound back.
