My last install was RC1 of the traditional installer CD and the bug was still there. As Matthew pointed out, the wrong modules are still getting loaded. Once I switch them around (as mentioned earlier in this report), and do my ritual "please work" dance, the install works as expected.

I haven't downloaded a daily build since RC1. If you think a fix has been attempted on this bug since then I'd be happy to do an install.
