So the problem /seems/ to be that the BIOS has left the hardware in a state where ata_piix thinks it can drive it (but can't). ahci is capable of driving it, but is loaded after ata_piix has bound to the PCI device. Ben, any idea if this can be avoided? Aaron, there's a BIOS update available from toshiba.co.uk - any chance that you can try that and see if it magically fixes things?
