ifconfig shows that ethernet has nothing. wg0 is for WireGuard. wlps0 is for my phone's hotspot as only way I can connect to internet either wired or wirelessly. Wired connection normally showing by clicking on top right hand corner of screen has again disappeared! I disconnected phone's hotspot in between 1st & 2nd ifcnofig:

Are there any packages which I can reinstall (or even purge & install) which are used for connection to a router?

BTW I have a an old Pentium laptop also on Ubuntu 22.04 which works Ok still. The only thing that I can think of that is causing these issues is that sometimes my PC freezes (and I don't know why) which gives rise to some orphaned inodes on rebooting. I've even tried a TP-Link usb wifi dongle but that doesn't connect either on this Asus barebones PN50-1 computer but works OK on my old Pentium laptop.
