What would you have us install from linux-backports-modules-jaunty? I added this repository, then ran apt-get clean all, apt-get update, apt-get dist-upgrade.

Got nothing. No new packages, backports or otherwise.

Sadness....I guess I'm back to writing my stupid hack to deal with this.

For what it is worth, I'm not sure, yet, but I suspect that it's a conflict of some sort between Compiz and iwlagn... It doesn't seem to happen as often (if at all) if I disable the Compiz effects (but, unfortunately, turning off all the Compiz effects results in the CPU, rather than the GPU handling graphics, which means cruddy graphic performance).

Subject: [Bug 375924] Re: iwlagn driver crashes, preventing shutdown from completing

Thanks for the photo. I assume that was without trying linux-backports-
modules-jaunty? Please be sure to try installing that first.

If the oops continues to happen on shutdown, try checking
/var/log/kernel.log.0 to see if the entire oops may have been logged
there. If not, try setting the font size to something smaller. For
example, from a terminal:

setfont /usr/share/consolefonts/Uni1-VGA8.psf.gz

Thanks.
