Makes sense. Could be just my eMac. If nobody else is having the problem, then it need not concern you further.

I'm trying another experiment here. Setting up QEMU one of my other boxes that has Ubuntu Studio on it. Will see what happens there.

Very much appreciate your help, and I will have a look at the kernel release notes.
