Comment 18 for bug 1085169

My system was using the proprietary Nvidia driver prior to the upgrade to 12.10, and after the upgrade continued to use the proprietary driver.
I switched to the open source nouveau driver, and so far, I have not seen the menu problem come up. I also have not seen the problem where the latop screen (not the external one) stays at dimmest brightness setting after resume from suspend. It now returns to full brightness.
It looks like the nouveau driver may be better tested/more stable?
