And by the way, just out of curiosity: I remember that at logout/shutdown/restart under Jaunty I got that sort of echoed/reverbered voice saying "Aah!" (should be a keyboard), but haven't heard it in Karmic anymore. Since I haven't read around about its suppression, am I the only one to have lost it, or is it somehow related to this audio problem? Thanks!
