It is DISGRACEFUL that a release should be condoned where the main KDE IM application doesn't work.

Add that in to the bugs in dolphin (no fixes in sight there either) and you have a perfect recipe for people to say "this is a waste of my time, do these people even check to see if things work ?" Questions like that are justified, and the answer is equally obvious.

I think it's a little bit strange to upgrade from the version 3.5.7 to 3.5.8 only two days before the release. I am the first to like edged software but I don't think that will be a good publicity for the project when people who would like to switch from windows will try kopete and will be unable to connect because of this problem. I let you imagine their first reaction.

I second Nicolas opinion. Especially having the 7.10 LiveCD with a non-function IM-client doesn't present the release very good. I think a version 7.10.1 release should be done, where this is fixed; a 'non-functional' LiveCD shouldn't live in 6 months.

I agree Awen, it would anyway be very wise to bring a .1 release out after a month or two, most of the serious bugs that were found in the official release will then be fixed in a .1 release. The upgrade-manager is also broken though, see https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/154771 for more details.

So, why doesn't the KDE Crash Handler take them out, or why aren't the packages built with better crash reporting? Just curious.

Agreed, but its the *buntu way of doing things -- no new software without
the work of installing a full new OS, reinstalling your apps, reconfiguring
everything.... It makes the LTS releases that much less appealing, IMHO.

This was fixed the day following the release. a new install all setups

that's incredible turn around time, especially when considering the
alternative (Vista) the still haven't release their patches.

I think I should re-open this bug. I did a clean install the other day and upgraded to KDE 3.5.9, and it was crashing. After installing the update from http://www.kdedevelopers.org/node/3041 I no longer had a problem (except it brought KDElibs down to 3.5.8). After upgrading back to kdelibs 3.5.9, it was still not a problem.

I've just installed Kubuntu 8.04 and this bug still persists. It's a shame that a bug that a bug survives multiple releases even though it is clearly acknowledged and a fix was already made available for some time.
