Bug Description

Binary package hint: kopete

When I start Kopete, and it tries to connect to MSN, it will crash (trying to parse the contact list, afaik).

Sounds like a config issue. From the upstream bug report:

------- Additional Comment #1 From Martin Sandsmark 2007-08-07 13:17 -------
I removed all of kopete's config files, and let it regenerate them, and voila, it worked again.
I'll mark it as resolved, even though I don't think Kopete should crash on faulty config files.

Some specific instructions would really help me out.
All I have right now is a non-working Kopete and a lack of desire to install Gaim.
I don't know where these files are located.

I have the same problem with MSN. Jabber work very well.

TheGZeus: The config files are:

$HOME/.kde/share/config/kopeterc
$HOME/.kde/share/apps/kopete/

Make sure you back all of them up before deleting anything!

Note that there is another similar bug which is not resolved by deleting config files -- bug #98789. The bugs have quite different backtraces.

I followed the advice above re: deletion of config files however the bug remains when trying to setup the MSN service on Kopete - after the wizard appears and then clicking through and completing it Kopete crashes.

Kopete will re-launch and when I try to sign-in with MSN it crashes again - backtrace attached.

...same here.

I deleted the files in those two directories, restarted kopete, recreated the account and had it crash after a few seconds of trying to connect.

Backtrace is:
