konqueror tries to open a binary file with kate that has .aiz extension

Bug Description

There's a karamaba in kde-look called All in one aero. This karamba has a set of plugins which are .zip files renamed to .aiz

When I go to kde-look and try to download any of them, konqueror tries to open it with kate, complaining it's a binary file. This makes difficult to download them, I usually have to go to the console and wget it.

example here:

(try to download the amarok plugin aiz)

IIRC this was a problem with the web server reporting the Content-Type as text/plain so Konqueror opens it in kate.

The webserver is definitely reporting the file as text/plain, which is why konqueror wants to open it in the configured text editor (gvim in my case). The webserver needs a configuration tweak, but konqueror should handle this more intelligently in lieu of a configuration option that allows files like this to be downloaded by default. (Workaround hint: right-click->save link as)

Thanks for the comments, but last time I tried I couldn't download the file with a right click action from kde-look. The file I'm saving is a Download.php file, mainly because the kde-look server just redirects to another server where the file really is stored.

firefox crashes, lynx displays the binary, and konqueror opens the opera 9.0 .deb in kate... wget is my friend...

Yeah, it does this for pretty much any file type that the server doesn't recognise. It would be nice if Konqueror could at least start to download the file and try to guess if it's not text/plain for recognised file extensions (e.g. torrent, deb, etc.) based on magic numbers.

This bug is especially annoying for pages that give you a download based on the attachment idea (refreshed to a page with the attachment headers) when you can't just use KGet's action menu to download it (you'd get the wrong filename, another annoying bug related to this).

This also _used_ to be a problem in Firefox, but now they just prompt you on what to do with it (but they also have a bug where it won't remember what you want to do with the file if the MIME type is wrong, so even when you have the "remember what to do" thing ticked, it _doesn't_ remember).

This also is happening with .kth (kde theme manager files) and .debs. in kde 3.5.6 in feisty, mainly from kde-look but also happens on pretty much any link that is formatted as a download.php?foo&whatever.

The only work around I have found for this is to open the file in a new tab, copy and paste the url into kget's open file dialog, and download it. This is really annoying... its something that the kde-look guys really need to fix... if it weren't for this bug, that would be an awesome site.

This bug just seems to get worse and worse as things go on... what is wrong? Why do I need a windows computer to get linux related downloads? Who ever runs kde-look.org, getdeb.net, and every other linux download site needs to be banned from the internet!

For right now, is there a way to get konqueror to never ever ever ever ever ever ever not provide a "Save link as" option?

Konqueror 4.0.83 in Intrepid handles this correctly, prompting the user to either save the file or open it in Kate.
