I think I have the same error. I am on an Dell xps13 with a hard drive about 20% full. I was automatically directed to this bug report after a gui upgrade reported that something (don't remember the exact words!) had gone wrong in the update.
I then rebooted and did an 'ls -lR /boot' and a 'sudo aptitude-upgrade'

I do NOT appear to have any 'system errors' on boot like Gary.
