Bug Description

After last Lubuntu update it became dependent on indicator-sound-gtk2, but when installed it brings some strange packages for LXDE.

Having Lubuntu 16.04 LTS clean installation, perform a dist-upgrade, you could apt-mark hold lubuntu-default-settings before a first dist-upgrade, unhold and then dist-upgrade again to see the exact problem.

It was prior filed here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lubuntu-meta/+bug/1710993/comments/30

As you can see performing apt-cache depends indicator-sound it recommends unity-control-center, gnome-control-center or ubuntu-system-settings which hurts Lubuntu motto.

As apt-get install recommended package, please, change these packages to Suggests or add lubuntu-default-settings as a alternative to these packages.

I don't think the problem is with indicator-sound/-gtk2.

indicator-sound Recommends one of the following ( | = or)
unity-control-center | gnome-control-center | ubuntu-system-settings | pavucontrol | mate-media

It seems a sensible thing to do would be to make lubuntu-default-settings pull in pavucontrol to satisfy the dependency, so that unity-control-center and its associated packages don't get installed.

I'm curious who thought adding these as direct dependencies was a good idea...

Daniel, that is why I said to change to suggests *or* to "add lubuntu-default-settings", this means to put it together with other "or" alternatives.

As Simon is planning to change lubuntu-meta in order to provide pavucontrol, I believe this change on indicator-sound is required, because I am able to mark to hold lubuntu-meta, and who provide the change to the indicator-sound is ubuntu-system-settings.

Simon, in my point of view there is two solution: or you continue the plan you have in mind about lubuntu-meta and change the indicator's dependencies as well, or you could change only the indicator to require pavucontrol, as Daniel said, so that it will not be required any changes on lubuntu-meta.

On my last post read lubuntu-default-settings where I wrote ubuntu-system-settings.

I have repeated the process, marking to hold lubuntu-core and lubuntu-desktop as well before the final test to make sure they get installed together.

I obtained with apt-get dist-upgrade -s:

I obtained with apt-get dist-upgrade -s --no-install-recommends:

So I can say, even though the pavucontrol is being installed, the packages keeps confusing the indicator dependencies, so, I can conclude there are still a problem to be solved.
