I have an M1522n and I'm running Lucid 64bit. Creating the symbolic link didn't help.

I have machines upgraded from older Ubuntu version and they can still do network scan without problems, so what I did was to download hplip directly from http://hplipopensource.com and install as I always did before.

Now network scanning works.
