Bug Description

Binary package hint: hplip

On Jaunty, using hplip 3.9.2-3ubuntu4
I have a MFP1522n and try to use network scanning (not USB).
Starting xsane it tries to connect to the printer and fails with the following error in syslog:

xsane: scan/sane/soapht.c 67: unable to load restricted library: libhpmud.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Creating a link to /usr/lib/libhpmud.so.0 works around the issue:
  sudo ln -s /usr/lib/libhpmud.so.0 /usr/lib/libhpmud.so
If you install the hp-plugin network scanning then works perfectly.

Confirmed in 9.04. Creating the symlink is the only thing needed to solve this problem.

Can anyone check whether it is still a problem with Karmic (or with HPLIP 3.9.6b)?

Removing the symlink I created to work around the issue in jaunty, it runs fine on current karmic.
Cheers.

This works in Jaunty for the HP CM1312 MFP N as well. The error code is slightly different, Xsane claims that is has encountered and i/o failure, but this fix resolves the problem.

The bug is present on a fresh install of Karmic 64-bit using printer HP m1120N MFP, the syslog shows :

scan/sane/marvell.c 66: unable to load restricted library: libhpmud.so: Ne peut ouvrir le fichier d'objet partagé: Aucun fichier ou dossier de ce type

Creating the symbolic link to /usr/lib/libhpmud.so.0 fixes the problem.

It works ok here on lucid without the symlink... so I'm wondering why LionelD needs it.

LionelD: please confirm that it still affects you (try removing the added /usr/lib/libhpmud.so -> /usr/lib/libhpmud.so.0 symlink).
If it's still present, you should probably open a 1120N-specific bug since 1522N is fixed AFAICT.

If anyone still experiences it with Lucid on the 1522N, please reopen the bug.

I have an M1522n and I'm running Lucid 64bit. Creating the symbolic link didn't help.

I have machines upgraded from older Ubuntu version and they can still do network scan without problems, so what I did was to download hplip directly from http://hplipopensource.com and install as I always did before.

Now network scanning works.
