Ubuntu can't package every last piece of software (just like Microsoft and Apple). PPA's are sometimes unavoidable if you want to use software not in the repos.

The solution to the issue is for programs to move to gstreamer1.0. Firefox 30 now supports gstreamer1.0 and phonon/KDE does as well.
